NPD: Rockster Daydreamer

Today I received a new custom pen from Rockster Pens, crafted by Ash Lawrence. While this is not my first pen from Rockster, it is one made specifically to my vision. I wanted a vintage-inspired design crafted from Mazzucchelli cellulose acetate, and the final result exceeded my expectations.

The pen arrived in a thoughtfully designed cardboard tube that immediately reflected Ash's attention to detail. The packaging is versatile enough to accommodate a variety of pen sizes, and the Rockster logo is prominently displayed. I always appreciate makers who carefully consider every aspect of the experience—from branding and presentation to shipping—as it elevates the enjoyment of receiving a custom piece.

Once I removed the pen from the tube, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the material. The material features a rich blend of browns, reds, and oranges, accented by subtle chatoyance that gives the pen remarkable depth and movement in the light. I chose rose gold-colored hardware to complement and enhance the pen’s vintage aesthetic, and it pairs beautifully with the material.

The pen isn't overly large and measures just over 5.5 inches capped and approximately 5.25 inches uncapped, with a 13 mm section width. It weighs 26.6 grams and is not designed to post.

The fit and finish are outstanding. Ash’s craftsmanship and polishing is exceptional, giving the material a depth and luminosity that almost makes it appear to glow from within.

In hand, the pen feels exceptionally comfortable. Its balance, weight, and length make it ideally suited for extended writing sessions without fatigue.

To say that I am pleased with this pen would be an understatement. It is a piece I plan to cherish and use for many years to come. While Ash (Rockster) only occasionally accepts custom commissions, he does release small batches of commission slots throughout the year. I was fortunate enough to secure one for this pen. For those interested in owning a Rockster Pens creation, there are often a few pens available for purchase directly through the website.
